Star Trek and Me
With the mother I have it was almost a certainty that I would be a fan of Star Trek. She watched the original series with her dad she she was little. It’s actually what started her own personal love of Science Fiction. I was just three when Star Trek Voyager first aired, and as my mother described it to me, she sat me down on the couch between her and my older brother and we watched the first episode together.
I have no memories of watching the first season, not originally at least. I do however have very good memories of watching vhs recordings of the episodes the morning after they aired and then later on after school the next day. Over the years I watched a lot of the other series and the movies but Voyager will always be my favorite. It’s marathoned once every couple of years in this house.
This explanation leads me to May 2009, when my brother, mother, and I went to see the new Star Trek movie, it’s actually the last movie the three of us went to before my brother moved to LA later that summer. We were very excited. We loved JJ at that point because of Alias, Lost, and Fringe, and had high hopes for the movie. It delivered. It’s actually one of my most watched dvd’s, after Clue but before Little Women.
Which brings me to today. My mom and I are going to see Star Trek today. 5$ matinees rule! What makes this better though is that although I normally don’t care very much, I have managed to stay spoiler free. I am just so very excited!
